Eric Papczun, the Director of Natural Search at Performics recently spoke on optimization for video search at the Search Engine Strategies Conference and Expo in New York City. Here are my takeaways from his presentation:
- Use one url for each video on your website – place each video on it’s own page. Surround the video with optimized text.
- Allow your video files to be embedded on your site and avoid Flash and pop-up players.
- Keep all your video files in one directory to make it easy for the spiders to tell what they are.
- Cross link between your videos using good anchor text.
- Create a video site map page and title it and optimize it for ”Video Site Map”.
- Use teasers on other sites, like YouTube, to entice people to click through to the full video on your own site.
- Watermark your videos with your logo and url.
- Use metadata to tag your videos.
- Check out CNN’s website to see good examples of how to organize videos on our own site.
