Local Search Definitions:
- Any search made with the intention of finding some thing in a particular geographic location.
- Any search made online with the intention of making a purchase offline.
- Any search that would traditionally be made in the print Yellow Pages becomes a Local Search when made online.
These are all viable explanations of Local Search and any or all of them can and are used. However, the last definition seems to be the one that non-SEM’s can most easily grasp.
Subsets of Local Search
- Nearcasting is when a Local Search is made for something nearby your present location. I would be nearcasting if I was looking for a hair salon in the neighborhood to get my hair cut.
- Farcasting is when a Local Search is made for something nearby a location you hope to be at some future time. I would be farcasting if I was going to New York and needed to know where I would be able to get my haircut while I was there.
